The weather and Westfield

The cold snap that's been making itself gradually known all week has finally, for want of a better word, snapped. As I left work tonight, an almighty drenching greeted me and just as I put up my rickety emergency umbrella it naturally only got worse and turned into full on thunder and lightening. Fun times when you're holding what is a metal framed invitation to bolts of the latter.

This of course was also the night I decided to take home loads of stuff that I've been accumulating. Heavy stuff. That meant I had to plod at snails pace all the way to the station, holding my crappy umbrella in place after it blew out approximately 20 seconds after I put it up.

And now, it's snowing outside. I didn't quite believe it at first but it's starting to settle which is both good and bad. Bad in that it means its officially cold (and probably slushy) but good in that I now have a legitimate reason to wear my Uggs to work. I'll have to carry normal shoes with me for work but once there, I'll just conveniently forget that my feet are snuggly and warm. Oh yes.

And now, onto more important things than the weather. Ladies and gents, in 35 hours, the biggest city mall in Central Europe opens. Welcome to Westfield London; 256 shops, 50 food outlets and conveniently 10 minutes drive from my house.

I must confess that at heart, I am a Mallrat. Whenever I am in the States, I love nothing more than wandering around the giant Meccas of spending that dominate the landscape. I know I sound shallow but it gives me a mindless type of joy to wander from shop to shop for hours, and then sate my appetite with Panda Express. Okay, so Westfield won't have a Panda Express but I'm sure that somewhere in the fifty eateries, I'll find an acceptable alternative.

Roll on, Thursday.

Friday wish list

Oooh it's Friday and I don't want to do any more work, so let's go for a little internet shopping, shall we? There's so many things I want, need and must have. Here are but a few:

First up, I WANT these awesome pillow covers from Urban Outfitters:

Then, obviously I NEED a new pair of jeans, following crotch gate so I'll buy these from Topshop.

And then, when I fly to Berlin in a few weeks, I clearly MUST HAVE new roll-on case and what's a little Chanel between me and my overdraft?:

Available at bluefly.com for the bargain price of $3836USD (RRP $4795). In that case, I'll take two.

Annoyed face

A few weeks ago, I noticed that my two favourite pairs of skinny jeans that I virtually live in had begun to split at the seams. Considering that I alternated between these two pairs day in, day out for almost four years, they've done pretty well. One pair is blue and one is grey. The blue were simply wearing through but the greys (the oldest of the two) were starting to split along a seam but being the resourceful soul that I am, I grabbed a needle and thread and with a bit of effort, managed to stitch them up enough that you wouldn't know.

At the beginning of the week, I reluctantly had to put them in the washing machine after I dropped balsamic vinegar down one leg. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that I am not gross, I was merely concerned in regard to their fragile state.

Sure enough, last night as I peeled them off after another day of wear, I noticed that although my handy work had held up, two new holes had emerged in the fabric and they're not the kind that can easily be stitched as they're not on the seam. I'm going to need to do some serious mending if I want to wear them again without flashing my pants to all and sundry.

Most annoyingly, Topshop, where both pairs are from, tweak the cut and style every season so they're never the same. I tried some on the other week as a just in case measure to no joy. So now, I begin the lengthy journey of once again trying to find jeans I love and as any woman will attest, this is no easy task.

ARGH.

Sad face

Today is a dark day in fashion. The brilliant Richard Blackwell, fashion critic, journalist, tv presenter and author of the famous Worst Dressed List, passed away yesterday aged 86. For those of you not familiar with his work, Blackwell was the man behind an annual list of the 10 worst dressed women which was published in January every year, insulting stars with scathing couplets.

You can find lists from the 2000s here. Amongst frequent offenders were tabloid trainwreck trio Britney Spears (6*), Paris Hilton (4*) and Lindsay Lohan (4*).

[* - number of appearances on the list since 2000. Britney would've probably scored another had she not been spared in 2007 on account of her meltdown.]

Mr Blackwell, we salute you and your fabulous work.

Repent, REPENT!

Ladies and gentlemen, the end is nigh. Expect the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to come thundering past your house and toads to start falling from the sky because Paris Hilton is the new cover girl for Nylon.

First, Peaches Geldof gets a job there and now, the queen of the vacuous has made it onto the cover. That's it - Nylon, it's over.

And it's not me, it's you.

The Love Bus

Remember how the other day I said I was having a spendaholic moment? Well, now something even cooler (and more expensive) has come to my attention. The Union Jack bus from the Spice Girls' movie is up for sale on ebay.

I'm not a huge Spice Girls fan but imagine driving round London in a Union Jack bus. Now, that's a statement. And look, it's parked nose to nose with the Kate Moss Rimmel bus:

Thankfully, my overdraft won't stretch to £3,500 or else I would totally be on that and probably bankrupt several times over.

Boot lust

I think I have shopping on the brain. Despite my current financial situation being absolutely dire following last weekend’s blow out spending spree, I continue to lust after these beautiful Frye boots.

If anyone in the UK knows where I can buy them, please drop me an email and I’ll send you something fabulous in return for this crucial information. Believe me, I’ve pretty much exhausted every route and I think if I email their PR one more time, I may be blacklisted.

I love them, I want them, I NEED them in my life.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

So, following the sadness of the blazer that never was, I have bounced back triumphantly. Last weekend, my mum came back from Berlin (where she's currently working) for a weekend and on Saturday, we hit town for a little retail therapy.

I was meant to be good, seeing as its taken me 5 months to clear half of my overdraft and I'd done that officially that morning but my mother and I should never be allowed to shop together. We are both of the school of 'you only live once so you may as well look fabulous' and the knock on effect was that I plummeted straight back into my overdraft with aplomb.

I've been umming and aahing as to what to channel for this season's inspiration but on Saturday I was decidedly inspired and shopped like I meant it. I bought the following:

And this is why I am once again poor but at least I'll be poor and well dressed.
