Holy grail of the soap addict

When it comes to soaps, I get very excitable. As returning readers will know, one of my biggest gripes about entering the working world is missing out on Neighbours. When the news came out that Five would be buying the show from the BBC, I was high on rumours that there would be an omnibus. Try as I might, I couldn't find any confirmation about it and resigned myself to the fact that there would be no change, other than the channel number and addition of commercial.

Imagine my delight, when channel surfing I came across the holy grail, THE OMNIBUS! I almost fell off the bed with joy, much to the amusement of my boyfriend. For the first time in almost two years, I got to watch several chronological episodes without the inconvenience of being riddled with flu.

See? I told you, Neighbours is like crack and I've fallen off the wagon in spectacular style. Bang go my saturday afternoons unless I can figure out my ancient VCR or suddenly afford Sky+. And we all know that neither of those are going to happen any time soon.

Neighbours' new home

Two posts in one day? Surely not! I've just seen the promo for Neighbours moving to Channel 5 and that's big enough news to me to post twice in one day, as those of you who know of my love of the show will understand. It starts on Five on the 11th of February and I'm hoping that all of those rumours of it being moved to a later slot (and maybe even an omnibus) are true. Yes, I know I'm a sad obsessive but I'm okay with that. So, here's the promo:

Soap addict

I know I blog rarely and when I do, I blog about Neighbours far too often to be healthy. As I say every time that I'm compelled to write about the show these days, I. Am. SO. Lost.

Since my last opportunity to watch, Sky's now out of jail (I still have no idea why she was there in the first place), some random new mysterious dude (complete with dark secret from his past, oooh!) has Stringray/Scott's donated heart and most weird of all, Foz from Hollyoaks (another one of my soap addiction shames) is now appearing as a builder called Adam.

I wish I had Sky+, I really do.

What. The. Hell?

I know I say this every time I blog about iNeighbours but what the hell is going on?! Sky's in prison, Tom the Priest is back (and apparently, the head master) and Janae and Boyd have split. The latter I had heard snippets about but seriously, someone fill me in!

It's rare that I get to watch Neighbs as I affectionately call it but the plots move so fast these days that every time that I'm granted the privilege of watching - once every three months or s - I invariably find two or three new characters and strange new relationships between others. Suddently, Janae has suddenly taken up boxing and Ned is her coach, who also now works for Paul, beating up security guards.

*Throws hands up in the air*

I give up.

Aaah, Friday.

Can someone please explain to me why Neighbours suddenly has such a rapid turnover in their cast? Ok, I may've missed 6 weeks but I'm once again horribly out of the loop and confused by the presence of various new characters. Who are these new people? Where have they come from? Is Stingray dead yet? (I'm guessing not, he's still just about in the opening credits.)

It's rare I get to watch Neighbours, unless it's the brief version on youtube but today was slow and I was alone as the work experience was off sick and in silence with a broken radio, so the higher uppers took pity on me and I got let off early, to roam freely through London. I tied up loose ends and skipped out of the door at 4pm, got home just before the rain and even got to watch Newsround.

It's sad that such things excite me these days, really sad.

Unemployment, Day 1

My first real day of unemployment passed quietly. I did a big shop at the local supermarket, cleaned out all of the shit that had been piled on my desk for eternity and other mundane things. My big highlight was a return to Neighbours. Unfortunately, after two months of work induced abstinence, I am somewhat lost in terms of what the hell's going on -

1. Who is the cheap looking Skye substitute with sunglasses marks burnt onto her face?

2. I presume that (1) is the new lesbian mechanic's daughter?

3. Who is the woman who Paul keeps fantasizing about?

4. Where has Max gone? Where is Skye? Is Charlie going to be a ginge?

I clearly have a lot of catching up to do. Answers to the above on a postcard, please.

More simpering Neighbours love

Today is a joyous day for many reasons; firstly, it's a Friday and that can't fail to bring a smile to anyone's face. Secondly, we had a continuous day today which meant I finished work at 5pm, rather than the usual 7:30pm onwards. Thirdly, it Neighbours' 20th anniversary and because of factors one and two, I get to watch it.

I know I probably rave about Neighbours a little more than is healthy but this show holds a very special place in my heart. For as long as my tv memory reaches, Neighbours has always been on at 1:35pm and 5:35pm, come rain, snow or shine. Except bank holidays and bloody Wimbledon. And there's never any good TV on either occasion, so it's best to skip it all together.

Anyway, it's 17:35 and there's a certain programme ready for me to watch it.
